Superkaramba October 28, 2005
I was always fascinated by desklets and the likes. But I never really tried to make my desktop really good looking, while trying to keep it useful at the same time. Lately I found some very nice tools to enhance my desktop. One of these is Superkaramba, a python add-on for the KDE desktop. Superkaramba lets you add all kinds of weird stuff to your desktop, and hundreds of themes are available (take a look at KDE-Look).
The result is the following:
If you are familiar with KDE you will notice that there’s something more than some stuff on the desktop. First the console you see at the top it’s a drop down one, a-la-quake! If you prefer typing than using a mouse this is a must. Yakuake (that’s the console name) drops down as you press F12 and disappears at your command. Brilliant.
The other interesting widgets are the Aero-G Superkaramba themes: nice circular meters for everything you like. My favorite is the battery one.
There is also a ContactList theme, that links to Kopete (my favorite messenger) and shows my contacts on the desktop.
Last, but not least the most useless part of all my desktop: the LiquidWeather theme! Don’t ask me why I keep it on my desktop, but be assured it has lots of nice features and it’s also animated. Keeps me company.
